Oct 25 Melissa Article

Life isn’t meant to be done alone. Inherently we know this as women, but the reality of life, ministry, motherhood, work, or whatever season you find yourself in right now, often distracts us from doing what we need and or want to do to grow.

We can be heard saying, “I’ll get to that when…” and there are a million different ways we fill in that blank.

  • when the market gets stronger,
  • when my marriage gets healthier,
  • when I get a job,
  • when my kids get older,
  • when ________,
  • and then we put it off and tuck away that dream in our heart.

Friend, are you saying some of these same things in your head, heart, or even out loud? If so, then chances are that you could use a coach in your life.

Oh, I know, there are a thousand reasons why the timing isn’t right, why you are “just not sure” or why you are unable to justify the time and or the expense, but here me on this…when will the time be right?

Why do I do what I do? Because far too long I was just like you, I sat back waiting for the right time, all along knowing that God was calling me to more. I knew it, felt it, prayed about it, but didn’t act on it and I can tell you, from experience, it is one of my biggest regrets. But God (I love those two words together) can and does redeem even my lost time and has used it to give me a passion and purpose to help other women to do the same.

Guys, if you are reading this, please know that I know many of you struggle with this as well, and I would say the same thing to you as I am to the other women reading this…invest in a great coach for your life. It is truly a worthy investment in your growth and development.

As for me, I help female leaders find their community, own their leadership, and take their step. This is the heartbeat behind why I started the Mashburns Consulting Group as well as my life coaching business. I’ve seen too many women over the years waiting for the “right time” and so often it wasn’t just the right time that was holding them back, but fear, insecurity, and the uncertainty of doing something new.

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 43:19 ESV

  • What new thing is God trying to do in your life?
  • What is holding you back?
  • Do you feel stuck and know there is something more, but don’t even know where to begin?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you might want to prayerfully consider getting a coach in your life. Let me just be clear from the get-go, a coach isn’t going to tell you what to do. A coach is there to listen, ask questions, and give you the space and freedom to think clearly about what God is laying on your heart.

If you want someone to tell you what to do, then you might want to get a consultant. As a consultant, mostly for ministries and churches, I would come in, use my experience and expertise to watch and learn what you are doing, then give you a list of things to do and fix to move forward.

But a coach, they will come alongside you and help you uncover those desires of your heart and help you take actionable steps to move forward in your time. What’s so amazing about a Christian life coach is that not only are you having someone walk alongside you, the two of you are inviting Jesus into your coaching and then we get to see Matthew 18 come to life.

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Matthew 18:20 ESV

Over the years I’ve talked to women from all walks of life and you’ll often hear me telling them there are three important people that you need in your life, as well as your relationship with Jesus.

  1. Comrades – Brothers and sisters in Christ that can walk beside you, lifting you up in prayer, and journeying through life with you. These are the friends who are like family to you.
  2. Counselors – Now more than ever I believe in and support the importance of seeking good Christian counseling. I’ve been an advocate and attender of counseling for almost twenty years and know first hand the impact a great counselor can have in your life.
  3. Coaches – To get to the next level, to go where you’ve never gone before, it’s important to enlist the help of a guide, someone that has been there and done that and help you as you go forward in faith.

Here’s what I know, to get to work on the things that God has uniquely called you to do can be done alone, but chances are it’ll take a lot more time and a lot more work. Why do it alone when you can get someone to pray for you, cheer you on, and walk with you along the way?

What’s something that you could take today to get you closer to finding your community, owning your leadership, and taking your next step?
